Cases where the weight of 250 g is exceeded in individual units of the DJI Mini 5 Pro – as reported by consumers online – do not change the fact that this drone still holds Class C0, which has been confirmed by the EASA.
Shortly after the launch of the DJI Mini 5 Pro, information spread in drone groups and forums from early buyers that this drone – according to their own weighing, documented with photos on kitchen scales – weighed more than 250 g. This raised doubts about whether this drone indeed comes standard with Class C0. Another argument reinforcing these doubts was the fact that the manufacturer, DJI, includes C1 stickers in the package.
After a week, the matter was clarified directly by EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency). Regarding the classification of the DJI Mini 5 Pro, Natale Di Rubbo (source) – Drone Project Manager at EASA – stated:
"Mini 5 Pro has a declaration of conformity with Regulation 2019/945 for class C0. A closer reading of the prEN 4709-001 standard reveals that the required tolerance is ±3%."
This means that individual units of the DJI Mini 5 Pro are allowed a weight tolerance of ±3% – i.e., up to about 7 g more or less compared to the 250 g limit. Most user-weighed Mini 5 Pro units weighed approximately 252–253 g, which means they still comply with the technical standard prEN 4709-001, which relates, among other things, to Class C0.
Incidentally, DJI itself has openly stated that the weight of individual DJI Mini 5 Pro units can vary on average by about 4 g – this information is included in the user manual of this drone model.

Why the C1 stickers?
Class C0 is the standard classification of the purchased DJI Mini 5 Pro, and such stickers are attached to this drone model from the factory. The additional C1 stickers are included because each user of the DJI Mini 5 Pro can consciously opt out of Class C0 and switch to C1. This was (at least so far) a one-way process – returning to Class C0 was not possible.
It should be noted that Class C0 drones (and generally < 250 g) are subject to fewer restrictions in many European countries and worldwide. Often, no liability insurance is required, and they can fly over uninvolved persons without restrictions. A disadvantage can be the “rigid” altitude limit of 120 m above the take-off point. In mountainous terrain, this prevents reaching higher altitudes when starting from a deep valley and flying along a mountainside (according to flight rules: 120 m above the nearest point on the ground – the drone’s technical limit prevents this).
In the situation described above, the user can decide to lift this limitation < 120 m above the take-off point – but this is associated with the switch from Class C0 to C1. Since the corresponding stickers are already included, the user only needs to submit a “request” to the manufacturer via the DJI Fly app. After approval of the request and a firmware update of the drone, the C0 stickers on the DJI Mini 5 Pro must be removed and replaced with the C1 stickers. In general, the procedure is the same as the switch from C0 to C1 on the DJI Mini 4 Pro – except that one no longer has to wait for a letter from DJI with the “C1” stickers.
What about liability insurance (OC) for DJI Mini 5 Pro users?
On November 13, 2025, the mandatory liability insurance for operators of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) weighing over 250 g comes into effect. This obligation arises from the revised Aviation Act and is detailed in regulations of the Ministry of Finance (currently still in preparation).
The problem is that the legal text does not refer to the drone class, but only to its weight. This means a simple interpretation: if your DJI Mini 5 Pro weighs more than 250 g, you are legally required to have liability insurance.
To avoid speculation, we requested a statement from the Civil Aviation Authority (Urząd Lotnictwa Cywilnego) on this matter:
"§ 2. 1. Liability insurance (OC) covers the civil liability of the operator of an unmanned aircraft system who operates an unmanned aircraft with a take-off mass from 0.25 kg to 20 kg for damages arising in connection with operations conducted during the insurance period. – In the draft, there is therefore no class distinction – the weight range applies."
This means that UAS with a mass above 250 g require the operator to have mandatory liability insurance (OC).
