ONLINE FAST TRACK: STS certificate with A2 and exam / Specific Category

The A2 license entitles you to fly in category A2, which allows drone operations in populated areas while maintaining a distance of 5 meters from people in low-speed mode and 30 meters in normal flight mode. In this category, drones with a maximum take-off mass of up to 4 kg can be operated. In addition to the A1/A3 certificate of competence, the remote pilot must complete practical self-training and pass a written theory exam to obtain the EU remote pilot certificate. The A2 license is part of the STS license and is covered in this training and examined in the STS theory exam.

The STS license can be used as a basis for flights that:

• Do not fall into the Open category
• Are conducted according to the European standard scenarios (STS 01 VLOS flights within visual line of sight and STS 02 BVLOS flights beyond visual line of sight)
• Require practical training and an assessment by our examiner in order to be carried out

Important: To fly European standard scenarios, you need a C5 or C6 class drone or a suitably modified C3 class drone.

• Depending on the type of drone operation, it must be individually notified to the aviation authority— in Germany to the LBA—based on the Operations Manual and the ConOps (Concept of Operations). To obtain authorization for a specific drone operation, you must present a theoretical training program and proof of pilot competence to the aviation authority. STS programs and licenses provide an excellent training framework and fully meet the requirements of the supervisory authorities to approve missions from SAIL 0 to SAIL 3.

STS flights – prerequisites!

The STS and A2 licenses are recognized throughout the European Union and are issued by Pro Fly Center, a designated examination body (DE.PStF-P.041) for STS and A2 exams as well as STS and A2 assessments.

• The exam session takes place entirely online via Zoom or MS Teams
• Up to 3 candidates can be accompanied by one examiner at the same time
• The session lasts 90 minutes and includes questions from each training block
• After the exam, you will receive feedback from the examiner on any errors. There will also be time for discussion and questions
• There are a total of 90 questions. If you answer at least 75% correctly, you pass the exam

After passing the exam you will receive:

• An STS theory certificate in the form of a printed card including A2, if you have not previously held an A2 license
• An extension of your A2 license for another 5 years, if you already hold an A2 license
